Have you ever wondered how the models have those naturally flushed cheeks and bitten lips? One of the ways in which you can get those rosy lips is by using a lip stain. These are cosmetic lip products with a gel or water base unlike lipsticks which are mainly composed of waxes and oils. Many of the lip stain products available in the market contain alcohol. They are long lasting and totally smudge free that makes them last for hours.
Due to their runny formula, lip stains are available in tubes with sponge tip applicators, marker pens or in roll on tubes. The lip stain when applied to the lips settles down really fast and then just refuses to budge.
The alcohol in these products can make the lips dry and lead to the appearance of fine lines on lips. The way to avoid these problems is by learning how to do lip stain makeup properly. Here are some simple tips to do lip stain makeup at home.
How to Apply Lip Stain
Choose the Lip Stain
Almost every cosmetic manufacturer has lip and even cheek stains. You need to choose a shade that suits your skin tone.
Unlike lipsticks, lip stains are available in limited shades and formula. Usually you can find lips stains in colors like red, maroons and pink shades. Test the lip stain in the store before getting it.
Exfoliate your Lips
Dry lips can be a bane when you want to apply lip stain makeup. Exfoliate your lips using a toothbrush or a wet washcloth. You can also use lip scrubs available in the market or make a homemade lip scrub at home using honey and sugar to exfoliate your lips and remove any signs of lip makeup.
Once you have exfoliated your lips, apply a lip balm to moisturize and hydrate dry lips. Let the lip balm stay on for some time so that it gets fully absorbed. Do not use a sticky lip balm as it can end up making the lip stain application quite difficult.
Apply the Lip Stain
Whether you are using a sponge tip applicator or a roll on tube, apply the lip stain starting from the center of your lips and then move towards the corner. Apply in one direction and let the stain settle down rather than just rubbing the brush back and forth.
Apply the stain on the upper lips followed by the lower lips. Use your fingers to blend the color on your lips. You can also use a lip brush. Blending has to be fast as the stain settles down quite fast.
If you want more color then apply another layer of color. If you add some definition to your lips then you can also use a lip liner before using the stain on your lips.
Apply Lip Balm and Lip Gloss
Lip stains are extremely drying. It is therefore important to use a lip balm after the application to keep your lips soft and hydrated. If you want a glossy finish to your lips then you can even use clear lip gloss on top of the stain.
Lips stains are a great alternative to lipstick as they provide a natural wash of color on the lips and stay on for a long time as well. So if you want that perfect pout without investing too much time then try lip stains for sure.
