Shaping the nails

Start by dipping some cotton in nail polish remover and removing the old nail polish. Now trim the foot nails with the help of a good nail cutter. Avoid too much cutting of the corners as it leads to ingrown nails which can be painful to deal with.

One has to cut their nails across straight. To get a desired shape use nail file or emery board. One can also try to first soak their nails for some time before cutting to make them soft and hence can be shaped easily.

Soaking the foot

After a long stressful day at work soaking the foot goes a long way. Fill the basin with enough warm water so as to cover till your ankles. Add half cup Epsom salt, juice of one lemon few drops of foot wash or a shampoo or hand wash, eucalyptus or lavender essential oil.

The salt acts as an emollient and soothes out any inflammations, reduces roughness and reduces any muscle pain. Essential oil provides rejuvenation to the skin and also calms down the nerves. Lemon juice is a good disinfectant and antiseptic. After soaking your feet for around twenty minutes dry them with a towel.





Exfoliating

After toweling your feet, rub some cuticle cream on each toe nail and leave for some time. With a pumice stone or foot file remove the rough and dry dead skin. It is necessary to remove the dead skin otherwise it would become thick and hard and can become infected.

Gently and firmly remove all the dead skin from all over the feet like the balls, heel, side of heels and around toes. If one doesn’t have dry skin then gently scrubbing with a loofah would also do. Next after wiping the cuticle cream gently push the cuticles back.



Take a good quality food scrub and with an old toothbrush scrub the nails and toes. Wash your feet and wipe your feet completely dry with a towl.

Moisturizing

After scrubbing your feet moisturize them properly. There are many foot creams available in the market that helps in softening, hydrating and protecting of feet from cracking. Wear socks for some time after the pedicure so that the foot cream gets absorbed effectively.

If you don’t have a foot cream handy, mix one tsp each of olive and almond oil for massaging your feet. Apply it one the feet and massage well. Ask your friend or hubby to do it for you if possible.

Foot massage at regular intervals provides stimulation to the nerve endings, improves the blood circulation and also nourishes the skin. If you have a problem of cracked feet use a foot cream especially formulated for that.

Apply Nail Polish

Ideally nail polish should not be applied just after doing the pedicure. After one day paint your toe nails with the color of your dress. The correct method of applying the nail polish is to first apply base coat. After it dries apply the coat of nail polish.
