Toe nail fungus is an audacious and embarrassing problem that many of us suffer from. Not only does it make the feet bad but also poses question on your general hygiene regimen. The common symptoms of toe nail fungus are nail discoloration which might appear yellowish, brittle nails, foul odor in the feet and peeling away of skin around the toe.
It especially inflicts those persons who have excessive sweaty feet or work in environments that require their feet to be wet most of the time. Some simple home remedies can help you get rid of the toe fungus if followed regularly.
Toe Nail Fungus Home Remedies
Mustard oil is a strong anti-microbial oil. Just warm a spoon of this oil with a clove of crushed garlic. Garlic is a known anti-fungal agent. Together both of these ingredients spell doom for fungal and yeast infections.
Apply over the nails and area around it at least thrice a day for relief from nail fungus. However, make sure that the feet and nails are absolutely dry before this application.
Turmeric is an antiseptic herb that fights skin infections effectively. If you have been suffering from recurring toe fungus then a turmeric wash could be an answer to your foot woes. In warm water, add 3-4 spoons of turmeric and soak your feet in it for about 15-20 minutes. Thereafter, dry your feet properly and do not cover. This treatment is best done when you are about to go to sleep as your feet will be exposed to air as you sleep.
Neem has been used since ancient times for skin problems. Right from its oil to leaves and roots, all parts of this wonder tree are useful. There are numerous ways in which you can make neem work for you. If you can get neem oil, then just apply it on your toe nails. Repeat every 3-4 hours. Alternatively, grind the neem leaves.
Mix some water to give it a paste like consistency and apply on the nails. Let it dry for about half an hour and wash off. You can also prepare a feet wash with the neem. Boil a large bunch of neem leaves in a water tumbler. When the water reduces just take it of the heart. Cool it and soak your feet in this water for about 10 minutes. Do this thrice a day and you will find the fungus receding.
Yoghurt works well on the toe fungus for one simple reason that it contains alive good bacteria called lactobacillus. This bacteria eats away the fungus and keeps its growth in check. Take undiluted fresh yoghurt and apply it on your toe nails. Let it rest until dry then wash off with soap and water. Do this as many times as you can.
Garlic is anti-fungal. You can obtain its oil and apply on the toe nails directly. Alternatively extract garlic juice by crushing a few cloves of garlic with some water. Apply this to your toe nail for relief. You should also make an effort to include it in your food preparations.
Taking one garlic with warm water on empty stomach is also considered beneficial. However, it is a long term remedy and is more suited if you are vulnerable to fungal attacks.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is a potent anti-fungal oil. The oil itself is very strong so it is advisable to dilute it with coconut or lavender oil in equal parts. Apply on your toe nail thrice a day for speedy recovery. Another fabulous way to fight toe nail fungus is to mix tea tree oil with olive leaf extract oil. Olive leaf extract have powerful agent that kill fungus. And at the same time moisturise your nails and feet.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Its a known fact that Vinegar kills fungus and what better than using apple cider vinegar. Try using unprocessed pure form of Apple Cider vinegar for home treatment of toe nail fungus. There are three ways of using it. One, dilute it with equal parts water and gulp it down. Ones in a day is enough. You can consume about 4 spoons of the diluted vinegar.
Do not over do as the fungus will recede but along with the your tooth enamel. Second way is to apply it directly on the toe nails. This will also have the same effect, in fact direct application will lead to speedy recovery. You can also prepare a toe wash from the vinegar. Add half a bowl to half bucket of warm water. Soak your feet for 10-15 minutes. Dry them and apply a good talcum or antifungal powder.
Baking soda is a deep cleansing agent. Most of the fungal infection on toe nail is a direct result of poor foot hygiene or stuck up build up under the toe nails which is very difficult to clean with your regular pumice stone and brush. Baking soda will clear all this in no time. Take a tub of warm water and add 3-4 heaps of baking soda. Immerse your feet in the water for about half an hour. Repeat this process every day at least ones.
Almond oil is a rich source of Vitamin E. Vitamin E basically helps in maintaining and healing of skin, hair and nails. You can mix this oil with a few drops of yoghurt or turmeric. Apply on your nails thrice a day. The turmeric or the yoghurt will eat away the fungus while Almond oil will begin the healing of the toe.
This remedy works in two ways and a great solution if you find yourself in this problem every now and then. Apart from using these wonderful home remedies you also need to be vigilant and follow a cleanliness regime for your feet. Always wear clean socks. If required change frequently.
Assign some time of a day to expose your feet to air and sun, both of these are fungus’ enemy number one. After bathing, dry your feet especially between the toes. Keep your nails well trimmed. If you follow the remedies coupled with the hygiene routine you will not only shoo the fungus away but also avoid it completely next time around!
