Oiling hair is an inexpensive and easy way to deep condition hair and nourish them. When we massage oils in our scalp, it helps in increasing blood circulation. An increased blood circulation means supply of more nutrients to hair and scalp resulting in better hair growth.
Oil forms a protective layer for hair shaft and makes it strong against the ill effects of blow drying and other chemicals used for styling hair. Head massage acts as a great stress buster, a major reason behind hair fall. Hence, oiling your hair twice a week is the best way to keep them nourished and strong. Massaging hair oil in your scalp is also an art and benefits most when applied in the right away.
Tips To Oil Your Hair
Select The Right Type Of Oil
The first step towards oiling your hair lies in selecting the right type of hair oil for your hair type, scalp and particular needs. If your hair are dry and frizzy, olive, coconut or jojoba oils work best. If you have fine hair, almond or olive oil is best for you.
If you have oily hair mustard, coconut, safflower oil will work best for you. If you want to add essential oils in your hair oil then select the ones suited to your needs. The idea is to deep condition your hair and relieve your head of stress with a good oil massage.
Warm The Oil
Slightly warm oil penetrates better in your hair and scalp than cold oil. You can slightly warm your head massage oil by placing the small bowl of oil in a bigger bowl of hot water. This will not make hair oil too hot to apply and at the same time will not destroy the nutrients of your hair oil.
Apply On The Ends
Take a small quantity of hair oil and apply on hair ends. Scrunch your hair ends well. It is an essential step because the natural oils of your scalp do not reach to your hair ends and they tend to get dry and brittle. Oiling hair ends will nourish them and make them softer. Make sure to apply on entire hair ends.
Apply Oil On The Scalp
Take some oil in your hands and apply on the scalp. You can also use a cotton ball to apply hair on your scalp. Apply hair on your entire scalp. Apply well on temples, crown, nape, behind the ears, etc.
Once you have smeared your scalp with oil then gently massage it with your finger tips. Massage your entire scalp in circular motion from right to left and front to back. Massage for about 15 minutes.
Steam Your Hair
After 30 minutes of oiling your hair, steam your hair. Steam helps in better penetration of oil in your scalp and hair. Dip a towel in warm water, squeeze excess water and wrap the towel around your head. Let it stay for 10 minutes and then wash off with regular shampoo followed by conditioner.
Brush Your Hair
After massaging oil into your hair, brush your hair with a boar bristle brush. Brush gently and do not pull on your hair.
If massaging has made your hair tangle then detangle your hair first with the help of a comb and then roll on the brush.
